How to create an Abby Health account

To learn how to create an Abby Health account, download the Abby app from the App Store or visit app.abbyhealth.app, sign up with your email or Apple ID, and enter your name, date of birth, and Medicare card details. Most people are signed up in under two minutes. Once your profile is set, you can book a consultation with an AHPRA-registered Specialist GP or Nurse Practitioner the same day.

What do I need before I sign up?

The full sign-up needs a few details, but you can start without all of them and finish later.

  • An email address you can access (for verification, e-scripts, and referrals).
  • A mobile number for appointment reminders and SMS-based two-factor checks.
  • Your full legal name, as it appears on your Medicare card.
  • Date of birth.
  • Medicare card details — card number, individual reference number, and expiry date. If you do not have one, you can still sign up; see using Abby without a Medicare card.

You do not need to have a current symptom or appointment in mind. Many patients sign up before they need care, so it is ready when they do.

How do I create my account, step by step?

  1. Download or open the app. Available on the App Store, or use the web app at app.abbyhealth.app.
  2. Choose how to sign up. You can use email and a password, or Apple ID. Use the same option each time you sign in to avoid creating duplicate accounts.
  3. Verify your email or phone. We send a one-time code to confirm it is really you.
  4. Enter your personal details. Name, date of birth, address, and (optional) preferred name.
  5. Add your Medicare card. The 10-digit card number, the individual reference number, and the expiry date. We use this to confirm bulk-billing eligibility under the rules in the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
  6. Complete your medical history. Add current conditions, medications, allergies, and past surgeries — see how to update your medical history for what to include.

Why does Abby ask for my Medicare details at sign-up?

Bulk-billing eligibility is verified against your Medicare card. Adding your card at sign-up means we can:

  • Confirm the appointment will be bulk billed before you book it.
  • Process the Medicare claim on your behalf, so you do not have to pay then claim back.
  • Avoid asking you for the same information twice when you book.

The detail on eligibility is in who is eligible for bulk billing. If you ever need to update your card — after a renewal, or because the card has expired — see what happens if your Medicare card is expired or invalid.

How is my information protected?

Your account is protected by the same standards expected of any Australian medical record. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner sets the privacy framework we operate under. We do not share your record with anyone outside your care without your consent. For more, see your data at Abby and what Abby will never ask you to do.

What happens after I sign up?

You are ready to book. The home screen of the app guides you to your first appointment in a few taps. You can choose:

  • A scheduled appointment with a specific clinician at a specific time.
  • First Available — the on-demand queue, best for simple requests like a medical certificate or a script renewal.

The clinician you see — a Specialist GP or Nurse Practitioner — is part of our care network of 300+ AHPRA-registered clinicians, working seven days a week, all year. Abby Health internal data, Q1 2026. About 71% of patients rebook with the same doctor.

Can I sign up on behalf of someone else?

You can create your own account and add dependants — children, parents, or anyone you have authority to act on behalf of. Each dependant has their own profile and Medicare details. For appointment-specific guidance, see how to book an appointment.

How Abby can help

Once you are signed up, your next consult is a few taps away. Book at abbyhealth.app/services/general-practice, or browse the full range of services. If you have any trouble, see what to do if you have trouble signing in. Abby appointments are bulk billed for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card.
