Last Updated
May 11, 2026

Creating an Abby account takes about three minutes. You sign up on the app or website with your name, date of birth, and Medicare details (if you have them). After verification, you can book your first consultation. The account stores your medical history securely and is accessible only to you and the clinicians involved in your care.

What you need to sign up

  • A valid email address.
  • A phone number for SMS verification.
  • Your full legal name.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Your Medicare card details, if you have one. Required for bulk billing eligibility.
  • Identification verification (driver's licence, passport, or similar) to confirm your identity.

If you do not have a Medicare card, see using Abby without a Medicare card.

Step by step

  1. Download the app or visit the website. The app is available on iOS and Android.
  2. Tap 'Sign up'. Enter your email and create a password.
  3. Verify your email and phone. A short code arrives by email and SMS.
  4. Add your personal details. Name, date of birth, address.
  5. Add your Medicare card. Card number, individual reference number, expiry. We verify this in real time.
  6. Complete the brief medical intake. Current medications, allergies, ongoing conditions. This takes about a minute.
  7. You are in. Book a consultation when you are ready.

Why we ask for ID

Identity verification is required for safe prescribing under Australian healthcare regulations. It also prevents fraud and protects your account. Verification is done once and is not repeated for each consultation.

Privacy and your account

Your account and medical history are protected under the Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles. See our data privacy guide for the full picture.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign up for my child?

Yes. A parent or guardian creates an account and adds the child as a dependent. The parent attends consultations with the child.

What if I had an Abby account in the past?

Contact us through the help centre. We can usually restore your previous account.

What if my Medicare card is expired?

Update the card number once you receive your replacement card. Medicare cards expire regularly and renewals are routine.
