Keeping this section current is one of the simplest ways to make every consult feel like the system has been paying attention.

Where do I find My medical history in the app?

Your medical history lives inside your Abby profile, separate from billing and contact details.

  1. Open the Abby Health app and sign in.
  2. Tap the Profile icon.
  3. Choose My medical history.
  4. Use the section tabs to add or edit each category.
  5. Tap Save when you are done.

You can update this any time, and you do not need an upcoming appointment to do it. Many patients prefer to add details slowly, a few at a time, rather than all at once.

What should I include in my medical history?

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners describes a complete medical history as one that helps a clinician understand the whole patient — not just today's symptom. The RACGP standards for general practice highlight a few core categories worth keeping current:

  • Current and past conditions — chronic illnesses such as asthma, diabetes, or hypertension, and significant past illnesses.
  • Current medications — anything you take regularly, including prescribed treatments, over-the-counter products, and supplements. List the dose if you know it.
  • Allergies and adverse reactions — medications, foods, latex, contrast dye, or anything else. Describe what happened when you reacted.
  • Past surgeries and hospital admissions — with rough dates if possible.
  • Immunisation history — useful for travel and pregnancy reviews.
  • Family history — first-degree relatives with conditions like heart disease, cancer, or mental illness.
  • Lifestyle context — smoking, alcohol, pregnancy status, and anything else you would want a new doctor to know.

Why does keeping it updated matter?

Medical history shapes safe prescribing, screening, and referrals. A forgotten penicillin allergy or an outdated medication list can change the right answer in a consult. Healthdirect Australia notes that accurate health information is one of the most important factors in safer care.

It also reduces friction. Abby AI, our medical decision-support tool, surfaces relevant history to your clinician before the consult begins, so you do not have to repeat the same story. About 71% of Abby patients rebook with the same doctor, and an up-to-date record is what makes that continuity feel useful. Abby Health internal data, Q1 2026.

Can I update my history right before an appointment?

Yes. We recommend a quick check-through the night before — adding any new medication, a recent test result, or a fresh allergy you have noticed. The clinician will see the updated record when the consult opens, including anything you have changed in the last few hours.

If you are running short on time, focus on three things: medications, allergies, and the reason for today's visit. Anything else can wait. Our guide to preparing for your telehealth appointment walks through the rest.

What if I have records from another GP I want to share?

You have a few options:

  • Type the relevant information directly into your Abby medical history (often the fastest).
  • Mention key details to your clinician during the consult — they can transcribe them into your file.
  • Ask your previous GP to send a health summary to your Abby clinician. You can give consent in the chat after booking.
