Where do I edit my account details in the app?

Most account details can be updated yourself, in under a minute.

  1. Open the Abby Health app and sign in.
  2. Tap Profile.
  3. Choose Account details (sometimes shown as Personal information).
  4. Edit the field you want to change.
  5. Tap Save.

Most changes apply instantly. A small number — name changes, Medicare card updates, and date-of-birth corrections — may pause for a quick verification step before they go live.

How do I update my Medicare card on Abby?

Medicare details are the most important fields to keep accurate, because they determine whether your appointment can be bulk billed.

  1. Tap Account details > Medicare.
  2. Enter your 10-digit Medicare number, the individual reference number (the small digit next to your name on the card), and the expiry date.
  3. Save.

If your Medicare card is expired, our guide on what happens if your Medicare card is expired or invalid walks through how to renew it through Services Australia and what to do in the meantime. You can also check eligibility through Services Australia directly.

How do I change my legal name on the account?

Legal name changes — after marriage, divorce, gender affirmation, or correction — work a little differently because the name on your Abby record needs to match the name registered against your Medicare card.

  1. Update your name with Medicare first, if you have not already.
  2. In the Abby app, tap Profile > Account details > Name.
  3. Enter your new legal name.
  4. Upload supporting documentation when prompted (a marriage certificate, change of name certificate, or updated photo ID).

You can also tell us a preferred name. Your preferred name is what your clinician greets you with — your legal name stays on the clinical record for billing and prescribing.

How do I update my email or phone number?

Your email is the single most important field for receiving prescriptions, referrals, and appointment reminders.

  • Email — Tap Account details > Email. Enter the new address and confirm with the verification code we send.
  • Phone — Same path, then Phone. Enter the new number and verify by SMS.

If you have lost access to the old email, message support from inside the app and we will verify your identity and switch the address manually. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner sets the standard for this kind of identity check, and we follow it carefully — your health record is too important to hand over without verification.

Why do these details matter?

Wrong details cause real problems. A mistyped Medicare number means a bulk-billed claim fails. An old email means an e-script never arrives. An out-of-date phone number means our SMS reminder lands somewhere you cannot read it.

A few minutes of admin upfront saves a lot of friction later. About 71% of Abby patients rebook with the same doctor, and that continuity depends on records being right. Abby Health internal data, Q1 2026. The RACGP standards for general practice describe accurate patient identifiers as a foundational element of safe care.

What do I do if a field is greyed out?

Some fields are read-only on purpose. Date of birth can only be edited by support — that is to prevent accidental corrections that would invalidate Medicare claims. If something looks wrong and you cannot fix it yourself, message support in the app. We will verify your identity and update the record.
