Before you start
You will need a valid Medicare card to access bulk-billed consultations. If you are unsure whether you qualify, our guide to who is eligible for bulk billing walks through the criteria. For the bigger picture on how our billing works, see is Abby bulk billed.
How to book, step by step
- Download the Abby app or open the website. The Abby app is available on iOS and Android. You can also book at abbyhealth.app.
- Create your account. Sign up with your email and a password. It takes a minute.
- Add your Medicare details. This is how we confirm eligibility and process bulk billing on your behalf.
- Choose your appointment type. Tell us what you need help with, whether that is a general consultation, a script, a referral, a mental health conversation, or something else.
- Pick Scheduled or First Available. Book a specific GP at a time that suits you, or join the First Available queue to see the next clinician free.
- See your clinician. At your appointment time, open the app and enter the virtual waiting room. Your clinician will call you in when they are ready.
- Receive your notes, scripts, and referrals. Anything you need from the consult, such as an e-script, a referral letter, or a care plan, is sent through the app after you hang up.
Scheduled vs First Available
Two flows, two different rhythms. Both are bulk billed for eligible patients.
- Scheduled appointments let you book a specific GP at a specific time. This is the option we recommend when you want continuity. Seeing the same clinician again is how a care network becomes a care relationship. Abby AI, our medical decision-support tool, quietly surfaces your history so your clinician starts informed. More on that in how Abby remembers you.
- First Available (FA) is our on-demand queue. It is capped at 15 patients and is best suited to straightforward cases such as a simple script renewal or a medical certificate. You will see the next clinician who is free, rather than a specific doctor you have chosen.
If you are not sure which to pick, a rule of thumb: choose Scheduled for anything ongoing, nuanced, or emotionally weighty. Choose First Available when the request is simple and you want it dealt with today.
Who you will see
Our care network includes Specialist GPs and Nurse Practitioners. All Abby clinicians hold current AHPRA registration. If you would like to understand the difference in scope, we wrote a short primer on what makes a Specialist GP in Australia.
After your appointment
Your clinical notes are saved to your Abby record so the next clinician you see, whether that is tomorrow or next year, can pick up where you left off. Any e-scripts are sent by SMS and email. Referrals and care plans are delivered through the app. There is no paperwork to chase.
