Dr Matt has 20 years experience as a GP, having qualified from Birmingham (UK) in 2001 and receiving postgraduate specialist qualifications in General Practice in 2006. He emigrated to Australia in 2008, working first in rural Victoria in Gippsland for 2 years before relocating to Cairns Far North Queensland. He spent 10 years there increasing his skills and experience in tropical climate medicine and skin cancer and men’s health.
Dr Matt has a passion for excellence and patient centred care such that he has also worked for Ahpra for 6 years as an Advisor – Ahpra regulate all practitioners in Australia so that the public can be sure healthcare practitioners are all striving for the excellence in care they deserve.
He is also passionate about Mental Health, having completed extra training to provide GP therapy and he is an ACT Therapist (meaning as a GP he can use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with patients and clients)
His passion for skin cancer medicine persists and he works 1 day a week at The Melanoma Centre providing skin cancer treatment to patients and he is also studying a Masters in Skin Cancer Medicine with the University of Queensland.
Moving to Brisbane in 2020 he met his wife, Sophie, and has 2 step boys and a toddler son and infant daughter. He also has 2 Cavalier King Charles and a Maine Coon cat. He helps his wife run a psychology practice group with sites so far in Birkdale and here in Hawthorne.
When he occasionally gets some time free his recent passion is riding Motorcycles and he took part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride recently raising money for Men’s Health.
