How can my employer verify an Abby Health medical certificate?

Every Abby Health medical certificate is issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor or nurse practitioner after a genuine consultation, on practitioner letterhead with the clinician's name and qualifications. Employers can verify any practitioner in seconds on the free AHPRA public register.

Every Abby Health medical certificate is issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor or nurse practitioner after a genuine consultation, on practitioner letterhead with the clinician's name and qualifications. Employers can verify any practitioner in seconds on the free AHPRA public register.

What a valid Abby Health certificate shows

  • The practitioner's full name, qualifications and practice details
  • The date of the consultation and the period the patient is certified unfit for work or study
  • The date the certificate was issued

Certificates do not disclose a diagnosis. Under privacy law an employer is entitled to know that an employee was assessed as unfit, not what was wrong with them.

How to check the practitioner

Search the practitioner's name on the AHPRA Register of Practitioners. It is free, public, and shows current registration status. This is the same check that applies to a certificate from any in-person clinic.

Why online certificates are legally valid

A medical certificate issued after a telehealth consultation carries the same standing as one issued face to face, because validity comes from the registered practitioner's clinical assessment, not the room it happened in. The Fair Work Ombudsman requires evidence that would satisfy a reasonable person, and a certificate from an AHPRA-registered clinician meets that standard. Our clinician-written legal guide covers this in depth.

A note on how Abby Health issues certificates

A certificate through Abby Health is never automatic. A clinician assesses each patient first and only issues a certificate where it is clinically appropriate, which is exactly what makes the document dependable when it reaches your desk.
